Best Spring Break Trips with Toddlers (Sorted by What You Actually Want)

Spring break is coming and you still don't have a plan. Every list online gives you 50 destinations and zero direction. That's not helpful, that's homework.

So we did it differently.

Instead of ranking destinations by popularity, we sorted them by what you actually want out of your trip. Because a mom who wants calm beach days and a mom who wants zero planning are not looking for the same place.

Every destination on this list is vetted for families with toddlers and little kids (ages 1-6). Stroller-friendly, warm weather, easy pace, and the kind of trip where you actually come home feeling like you got away.

Best for Beach Days: Clearwater Beach, Florida

If your ideal spring break is sand between tiny toes and calm water you don't have to stress about, Clearwater Beach is the one.

The Gulf side of Florida is a completely different experience from the Atlantic. The water is warmer, the waves are gentler, and the beach itself is wide, white, and flat which means your toddler can splash in ankle-deep water for an hour without you holding your breath.

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is small, interactive, and built for little kids. No overwhelming crowds, no three-hour commitment. You're in and out in 90 minutes and your toddler just touched a stingray and talked about dolphins for the rest of the day.

Pier 60 has a nightly sunset festival with street performers and craft vendors. It's free, it's outdoors, and toddlers love the energy. Grab dinner early at Frenchy's (the grouper sandwich is legendary) and walk the pier while the sky turns pink.

✨ Don't Miss: The Jolley Trolley runs up and down the beach strip for a few dollars. Toddlers are obsessed with it, and it saves you from fighting for parking.

Best for Desert Sunshine: Scottsdale, Arizona

If your family runs on sunshine and pool time, Scottsdale in spring is hard to beat. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, dry air, blue skies and none of the brutal summer heat that makes Arizona impossible later in the year.

Most Scottsdale resorts have incredible pool setups with splash pads, shallow wading areas, and poolside food service. You could honestly spend your entire trip between the pool and your room and your toddler would call it the best week ever.

But if you want to get out, the Desert Botanical Garden is stroller-friendly and full of things like giant cacti, wildflowers, and hummingbirds. Butterfly Wonderland (one of the largest butterfly conservatories in the U.S.) is a guaranteed toddler hit. And McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has a real working train, a carousel, and a playground that will burn an entire morning.

✨ Don’t Miss: Hash Kitchen does a brunch with pancakes for the kids and a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar for the grown-ups. That's a win-win if we've ever seen one.

🎨 The Scottsdale Adventure Activity Pack has printable games and coloring pages to keep them entertained during downtime.

Best for Charm and Good Food: Charleston, South Carolina

If your dream spring break involves pretty streets, incredible restaurants, and a pace that feels slow on purpose, Charleston is your place.

The historic district is compact and walkable and you can cover a lot of ground even with a stroller and a snack-obsessed three-year-old. Rainbow Row is a quick, colorful photo stop. The waterfront park has a pineapple fountain that toddlers are magnetically drawn to. And the whole city just feels warm in a way that has nothing to do with the weather (the low 70s in spring don't hurt either).

But let's talk about the food, because that's the real reason to come here. Callie's Hot Little Biscuit is a must. Poogan's Porch does shrimp and grits that are worth the trip alone. And for a laid-back brunch that works with little ones, Husk delivers every time.

If you need a beach day, Folly Beach is about 20 minutes away with calm, shallow water and enough sand to keep everyone busy for hours.

✨ Don't Miss: The Charleston City Market on a weekend morning. Live music, local art, sweetgrass baskets, and fresh pastries. Stroller-friendly and free to browse.

Best for Zero Planning: Riviera Maya, Mexico (All-Inclusive)

If the thought of planning where to eat, what to do, and how to get there makes you want to cancel the whole trip, an all-inclusive in Mexico's Riviera Maya is the move.

Here's how it works: you land in Cancun (2-4 hour direct flight from most U.S. cities), a shuttle takes you to the resort, and from that point forward, every single thing is handled. Meals. Snacks. Drinks. Kids club. Pool. Beach. Entertainment. You don't plan a thing. You just show up.

That's it. That's the whole pitch.

Most family-friendly all-inclusives in the Riviera Maya have dedicated toddler splash pools, on-site kids clubs, cribs and high chairs ready to go, and multiple restaurants so you're never stuck eating the same thing twice. Some even offer strollers, bottle warmers, and baby gear so you can pack lighter than you thought possible.

The weather in spring is warm and sunny without the intense summer humidity. The beaches are gorgeous. And the best part? Dinner is a two-minute walk from your room, not a 30-minute drive to a restaurant you spent an hour researching. If someone needs an early night, no big deal. You're already home.

✨ Don’t Miss: Most resorts run a weekly Mexican fiesta night with live music, dancing, and kid-friendly activities.

Best for Beyond the Theme Parks: Orlando, Florida

Yes, Orlando means Disney and Universal. But here's what most lists won't tell you: Orlando is incredible for toddlers even if you skip the big parks entirely.

LEGOLAND Florida (about 45 minutes from Orlando) is specifically designed for kids ages 2-12. The rides are toddler-sized. The crowds are a fraction of Disney. And the whole park is manageable in a single day.

For a calmer day, Kelly Park at Rock Springs has a crystal-clear natural spring where families float in tubes through a lazy river surrounded by trees. It's beautiful, it's basically free (small parking fee), and toddlers love it.

And if you do decide to hit Disney, keep it small. Magic Kingdom is the most toddler-friendly park, and Fantasyland alone is enough to make it feel like the most magical day of their little life. Build in an afternoon pool break at the resort, skip the park-hopper pass, and give yourself permission to leave early. Less is more with little ones at Disney, and honestly, they won't remember if you missed Space Mountain. They'll remember the carousel.

✨ Don’t Miss: The town of Celebration (10 minutes from Disney) has a walkable downtown with ice cream shops, a playground, and a lakeside path. It feels like a break from the break.

🎨 The Orlando Adventure Activity Pack has printable games and coloring pages themed to the city - great for keeping little hands busy on the plane or during resort downtime.

Best for a Little Bit of Everything: San Diego, California

If you can't decide what kind of trip you want, San Diego is the answer. Beach? Great ones. Zoo? One of the best in the world. Parks? Balboa Park alone could fill three days. Good food? Everywhere you turn. And the weather in spring is basically a permanent 68 degrees and sunny.

The San Diego Zoo is the big draw for families. It's massive, shaded, stroller-friendly, and broken into sections you can tackle in a couple of hours without feeling like you need to conquer the whole thing. La Jolla Cove is gorgeous for a morning walk (the kids will lose their mind over the seals). Balboa Park has wide open lawns, gardens, and a fun carousel.

Coronado Beach is calm, wide, and flat which means your toddler can splash in the shallows while you actually sit down for five minutes. And the Gaslamp Quarter has dozens of family-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating, so nobody's trapped inside when they get antsy.

✨ Don’t Miss: The Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park has a dedicated toddler play area called "Kid City.” Free with general admission.

UNDERRATED PICK: San Antonio Hill Country, Texas

Not on most spring break lists, but it should be. The San Antonio Hill Country has two of the best family resorts in the country, and both are built for exactly the kind of trip where you can stay put or get into the city and explore.

The JW Marriott Hill Country Resort has a 9-acre water park with a lazy river, water slides, a kids pool with mini slides, a sand beach, nightly s'mores, live animal encounters, and on-site dining. The Hyatt Regency Hill Country sits on 300 acres of ranch land with a lazy river, zero-entry kiddie pool, a FlowRider wave machine, a brand new lagoon with a sandy beach, and a playground. Both have heated pools, breakfast options, and enough on-site activities that you never need a plan.

Warm spring weather, short flights from most of the South and Midwest, and prices that are significantly lower than Florida or Arizona resorts. If your toddler's happy with a pool, a lazy river, and some animal time, this is worth a serious look.

✨ Don’t Miss: The Pearl District farmers market on a Saturday morning. Live music, breakfast tacos, and enough space for your toddler to wander without you chasing them through a crowded restaurant.
